In addition to being a Chesapeake Bay Fellow, Wilson plays football, wrestles, and is learning the ukelele in his “spare” time. Wilson studied oyster growth, oyster reproduction, and oyster farming as his research project in the fall of 2011. His paper is published on this blog.
Wilson is currently partnering with Fellow Courtney Byler on an oyster restoration project. They have placed 6,000 spat (baby oysters) in the Lynnhaven and Lafayette Rivers. They will compare growth rates before planting their oysters on area restoration reefs.
A love of fish, fishing, and water sports, especially surfing, was what prompted Wilson to become a Chesapeake Bay Fellow.
