Hans Christoffersen ’18

Hans Christoffersen is a Chesapeake Bay Fellow of the 2018 class. Hans has always enjoyed being on the water, whether on a kayak, a boat, or with a fishing rod in hand. He applied to the Fellows so that he could work to help the waterways and area he lives in and loves. Hans is currently working on researching the American Shad of the Chesapeake Bay. This fish is a historically significant one, without which the men at Valley Forge would have starved, and America’s history could have drastically been changed. He finds these fish extremely interesting, and finds their protection extremely important for reasons other than a  food source for the key predatory species in the bay. Hans finds their protection key, as it would be a shame for future students to learn of Valley Forge and how the men survived off of shad, and then follow the lesson with the question, “What is a shad?”Christoffersen is a Chesapeake Bay Fellow of the 2018 class.
